Tik Tok is a very influential platform; it has made people follow good and bad trends. One of these trends includes people doing videos with colored contacts which is something that can be very dangerous. Colored contacts can affect your eyes in negative ways such as getting infections, scratches in the eye, allergic reactions, blindness, and impaired vision.
The eye is a very delicate part of the body; even a small piece of trash can cause an infection. Now, imagine actually touching your eye and putting something in it because you want to. Contact lenses are something that people commonly use, If you do not follow the procedure on the box to clean the lenses, you can be at risk of getting bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites in your eye. A very common infection would be keratitis which causes the cornea, which covers the pupil and iris, to get infected. Some symptoms for it would be eye redness, pain in the eye, excess tears, and blurriness. This could even lead to blindness if not treated immediately. Besides that, you could get an allergic reaction with the same symptoms if you buy lenses by just the way they look on you.
People are now learning how to put the contacts on their eyes; so when they blink, they get a different eye color. This is something that can cause impaired vision which is when the eyesight cannot be corrected to a normal level. This is due to the fact that colored contacts usually have more pigment and are thicker. Therefore, the lens will most likely not line up with the pupil and it will not allow the pupil to expand how it should since the colored portion of the lens will be blocking it. This is something that is very likely to happen due to the fact that this is already something that is common with any contact lens. Whenever you blink and have a contact lens in your eye, it usually moves without doing it on purpose.
Since people usually use colored lenses just to make a video or to go out for a while and then come back, it means that they probably put them on and off very often. This is something that a person with normal contacts would not do as much because they actually need it to see. This on and off action increases the chances of their lenses breaking and them not noticing. If their lense is broken, that means that they can easily scratch and damage the cornea which can potentially lead to blindness.
Something else that can cause potential blindness besides the contact lens is the improper use of the contact lens solution. If you don't use the contact solution correctly you may get a corneal ulcer. This is an open sore in the cornea that can cause inflammation in the eye. You can tell that you have this by seeing your eye and looking to see if the cornea looks a bit grey, this is something that at times may be hard to detect. This is something that can be taken care of by changing the solution every day, there majority of people tend to throw some of the already used solutions away, and for what is left they add a bit of unused solution. This is something that is wrong since all the bacterias from the used ones are getting mixed with the new ones. Another important thing is to check the expiration date, the eye is very sensitive therefore if you used something that is expired, you will be very likely to get infections.
All of the negative effects mentioned before are things that can happen to people who wear normal contacts which is why it is better to use glasses instead. The difference is that they are actually prescribed by an optician; avoiding problems such as allergic reactions. Besides that, they will probably not put them in the upper part of their eyes since they are not using them to show off their colors, but instead, to see. Whenever you are thinking about using any sort of contact consult an optician beforehand. If you are one of those people that wear them for videos or just to change your eye color, be extra careful and think before using them; because it can lead to terrible damage. It's better to avoid this type of situation, especially if you are someone who has perfect eyesight with no need for contact lenses.
