Valeria Martínez and Valentina Martínez are two 18-year-old sisters from Venezuela. They are co-founders of the clothing company called DesignbyVale. Valeria explains how the whole idea of this business began due to her love of clothes, but on the downside, “stores tend to be one of the biggest causes of pollution and it is not something [she] would like to be a part of”. This inspired her to begin to do her own clothes, and little by little she began improving more on her techniques. She then decided to include her sister in this project and now she takes care of the account while Valentina designs and creates the beautiful clothes they offer.
For them, what most drew them to the fashion industry was that they are “ able to create and share [their] designs in a way that does not affect the environment in a bad way”. Whenever they are creating clothes, one of the most important things for them is to make sure none of their products are producing any environmental waste. They consider this to be one of the biggest problems in the fast fashion industry. They also explain how these companies “exploit their employees to keep up with consumer demand, so [they] try to make [their] brand 0 waste”. They think that not only fast fashion affects the environment but also the community.
They attribute most of the success of this brand to their biggest supporters which are ”their family and friends”. These people have supported through it all and made them feel confident about the originality of their business. They feel their company stands out from all the others as they are always trying to create different and striking content for their clients. For them the most important thing their company has is that “they comply with what they offer, for example, they offer eco-friendly products and that's what they have”. Being truthful to your brand is key when starting a business.
As young people, starting a business can be difficult because there are several obstacles you need to learn to overcome. For Valeria and Valentina, their most prevalent one is the lack of time. Because of this they have learned to “organize [their] day in a way where studies and business do not collide with each other”. This has helped them to stay on top of everything while still having free time and not overwhelming themselves with tasks.
For anyone that is starting a business they would like to advise them to “have a lot of patience and perseverance, since all good things take time”. Being a new company can be hard as you have to put effort into getting your name out there, but everything is worth it at the end. They tell people to just enjoy the process of creating things and being an entrepreneur. As their business progresses they would love to “expand so that [they] can ship anywhere in the country as well as continue creating more and more eco-friendly designs”. They love what they do and hope this business can go to great places and inspire others as well.

Para ellas lo más importante que tiene su empresa es que “cumplen con lo que ofrecen, por ejemplo, ofrecen productos ecológicos y eso es lo que tienen”. Ser honesto en su marca es clave al iniciar un negocio.
Como jóvenes, iniciar un negocio puede ser difícil porque hay varios obstáculos que debes aprender a superar. Para Valeria y Valentina, la más frecuente es la falta de tiempo. Debido a esto, han aprendido a “organizar [su] día de una manera en la que los estudios y los negocios no choquen entre sí”. Esto les ha ayudado a estar al tanto de todo sin dejar de tener tiempo libre y no abrumarse con las tareas.
A todo aquel que esté iniciando un negocio les gustaría aconsejarles que “tengan mucha paciencia y perseverancia, ya que todo lo bueno lleva tiempo”. Ser una empresa nueva puede ser difícil, ya que tienes que esforzarte para que tu nombre se conozca, pero al final todo vale la pena. Le dicen a la gente que simplemente disfrute el proceso de crear cosas y ser emprendedor. A medida que avanza su negocio, les encantaría "expandirse para que [ellas] puedan realizar envíos a cualquier parte del país, así como seguir creando cada vez más diseños ecológicos". Les encanta lo que hacen y esperan que este negocio pueda llegar a lugares excelentes e inspirar a otros también.
