What Music Means For Me?

Francisco Torres

Many people get confused about the passions of other people. For example, they don’t understand why someone they know would become a doctor, a soccer player, a cop, etc. This same situation happens to me, but with music; the people around me get both amazed and bewildered about the feeling it causes to me. By means of this writing, I wanna answer the question I have always been asked: “What does music mean to you?”.

I’ve always liked music, since I was a little kid. But as I grew up and I got more conscious, I began not just to hear it with more attention, but to feel it vibing inside myself. Then I started taking music classes, so I could learn music theory; also I learned to sing and play guitar. Those classes made me see a whole new world that was right in front of me and I couldn’t see it before, because I didn’t have all the knowledge I have now and I wanna confess that I fell quickly in love with it. I even dare to say that my life wouldn’t be complete without music in it. I know it sounds like something heavy, but it’s something I realized about with time.

Why is this? Music makes me free of all the problems, worries and complications that are present in my life. It makes me see the world in an easier way ; it’s so much like that, that it helps me to express my feelings in an easier way than just by talking. When I’m sad, I’d write or hear a sad song, and when I’m happy, I’d hear, write or even dance a happy song. It also allows me to portray my personality on a track and send a message that people would identificate with, so they can feel the same energy I’m feeling when I’m singing or playing. Whenever I’m performing, my objective is to connect with the public and when I see that I achieved that objective, my heart fills with a joy and a satisfaction that makes me feel like I can fly and the smile in my face is bigger than the moon.

You can’t imagine the power I feel whenever I know that I have a microphone in my hand. I feel like I can change the world only with my voice and the message I’m singing; I also feel like I can say whatever I want, be whoever I want and express all that in the easiest way for me, and that way is music.

I’ve always had the firm belief that if you do your work with laziness and just wanting to get out of it, you’ll do it wrong, but if you do it purely from your heart, then you’ll be doing it correctly and your success will be massive; that’s the message I want to transmit with my music. Whenever I’m making or performing a song, I will always do what my heart tells me, so I can connect with people, mean something to them and let them know that everything is possible if you put your maximum effort to achieve your goals. Thank you.
