Everyone has an Artistic Side

Everyone has an artistic side. However, most of us are not aware of it. I cannot even count all the times that people have told me "I am not an artistic person, I cannot even draw a doll of sticks", to which I always reply that drawing a stick figure is not the only way to create art . The truth is that human beings are naturally creative. Creativity is necessary to survive, and we use it on a daily basis, even when we are not aware of it. From substituting ingredients in a recipe because you don't have what it takes, to putting stickers on your laptop or even redecorating your room, there is a great chance that you are much more creative than you think.

I discovered that I liked drawing and painting at the age of 14, and I decided to study it as a career at 16. Today I am in my third year of Art and Design, focusing on photography and digital media. My experience with the arts has followed a traditional path. I learned to paint, draw, make up, act, sing, take photos, illustrate, edit video, and work in graphic design. I have always considered myself super artistic and creative, and that is why I say with all the possible authority that there is art everywhere, and I believe that knowing how to recognize it can help us to know and appreciate ourselves and the world around us more.

Creative careers definitely help you develop your creativity, leadership, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Forget the myth that studying art, acting, or design is a waste of time, in my opinion these careers are incredible if you are really passionate about the arts. However, after reading this reflection, I want you to ask yourself where creativity comes into play in your non-artistic career. Medicine? Engineering? Psychology? They are all inherently creative. Do you have any hobbie? My roommate always tells me that she is not creative, and a couple of days ago she showed me the woven bracelets that she makes. Think about the things you do when nobody sees you, the things that you enjoy and relax… it is very possible that you are already creating art, give yourself credit for it.

Finally, if we all connect with our creativity, we will realize three very important things:

1. We are more powerful than we think. Creation is power.

2. If we decide to see the world through a lens of art and creativity, we will find beauty even in the darkest corners.

3. The best way to honor your creative side is by recognizing the creativity in others, and by supporting those who dedicate themselves full time to the arts, after all, they are more like you than you think.

Todo el mundo tiene un lado artístico. Sin embargo, la mayoría de nosotros no está consciente de ello. No puedo ni siquiera contar todas las veces que me han dicho “Yo no soy una persona artística, no puedo ni siquiera dibujar un muñeco de palitos”, a lo que siempre respondo que dibujar un muñeco de palitos no es la única forma de crear arte. La verdad es que los seres humanos somos naturalmente creativos. La creatividad es necesaria para sobrevivir, y la usamos a diario, incluso cuándo no somos conscientes de ello. Desde sustituir los ingredientes en una receta porque no tienes lo necesario, hasta ponerle stickers a tu laptop o incluso redecorar tu habitación, hay una gran posibilidad de que seas mucho más creativo de lo que piensas.

Yo descubrí que me gustaba dibujar y pintar a los 14 años, y me decidí a estudiarlo como carrera a los 16. Hoy en día estoy en mi tercer año de la carrera de Arte y Diseño, enfocándome en fotografía y medios digitales. Mi experiencia con las artes ha seguido un camino tradicional. Aprendí a pintar, dibujar, maquillar, actuar, cantar, tomar fotos, ilustrar, editar video y trabajar en diseño gráfico. Siempre me he considerado súper artística y creativa, y por eso digo con toda la autoridad posible que hay arte en todas partes, y creo que saber reconocerlo puede ayudarnos a conocernos y apreciarnos más a nosotros mismos y al mundo que nos rodea.

Las carreras creativas definitivamente te ayudan a desarrollar tu creatividad, liderazgo, pensamiento crítico y habilidad para solucionar problemas. Olvida el mito de que estudiar arte, actuación, o diseño es una pérdida de tiempo, en mi opinión estas carreras son increíbles si de verdad te apasionan las artes. Sin embargo, después de leer esta reflexión, quiero que te preguntes dónde entra en juego la creatividad en tu carrera no artística. ¿Medicina? ¿Ingeniería? ¿Psicología? Todas son intrínsicamente creativas. ¿Tienes alguna afición? Mi roommate siempre me dice que no es creativa, y hace un par de días me mostró las pulseras tejidas que hace. Piensa en las cosas que haces cuando nadie te ve, las cosas que disfrutas y te relajan… es muy posible que ya estés creando arte, date crédito por ello.

Finalmente, si todos nos conectamos con nuestra creatividad, nos daremos cuenta de tres cosas muy importantes:

1. Somos más poderosos de lo que creemos. La creación es poder.

2. Si decidimos ver el mundo a través de un lente de arte y creatividad, encontraremos belleza incluso en los rincones más oscuros.

3. La mejor forma de honrar tu lado creativo es reconociendo la creatividad en los demás, y apoyando a aquellos que se dedican tiempo completo a las artes, al fin y al cabo, son más parecidos a ti de lo que crees.
