The Impact of Dance

Dancing is great, and in this article, I will explain why. There is just something about being able to freely move your body to the beat of the music that seems to make all your troubles go away. I have been dancing ever since I can remember, yet I joined a dance studio about 3 years ago. When I was younger I was in a few dance classes; for example, ballet, jazz, etc. Yet I discovered my true love for dancing as soon as I realized that it was helping me with my mental health. I know it might seem silly to think that something like dancing could help relieve the pressure that our daily lives have on our mental health; but trust me, it does.

By no means am I a professional dancer of any sort, but I just wanted to express how much dancing has done for me. When I first entered the dance studio in which I currently am, I was terrified, I entered and the first thing I saw was a lot of girls who were already great at dancing. But the more time I spent in that studio during the week, I started feeling more comfortable. Soon enough, I noticed that I wasn’t having panic attacks as often as I used to. I chose to attribute this to dancing. As more weeks passed by, I suddenly felt a little more confident in myself. At first, due to the beauty standards in social media, I found myself in a very unconfident state of mind; but, the more time I spent with those girls and everyone else, I felt better about myself. The truth is that the feeling of freely moving your body is something many people don’t always appreciate enough.

When you listen to music, a type of neurotransmitter, basically a brain chemical, called dopamine, is released. This chemical is also released when you make sudden movements like those involved in dancing. This natural reaction of the body automatically causes you to feel better, but something else dancing does is make you think you are now more capable than before. As you learn new dance moves, your brain will give you a sense of accomplishment. And this makes you feel proud of yourself and gives you the feeling of assurance that you are able to do more things than you thought possible.

Realistically, dancing might not be for every single person on this planet; but, it sure is for a great amount of them. Dancing doesn’t necessarily have to be choreographed; it has many ranges. It could be you just tapping your foot on the floor to the rhythm of the music in your headphones or jumping around your room with the music playing loudly in the back. Anyone can dance, and I think that is one of the most special things about it. It gives everyone the opportunity to express themselves in many different ways. So I greatly encourage everyone to think about this the next time they are dancing and remember the many wonders dancing can do for you.
