Feel Something

The outside world has taught us that showing our emotions is something prohibited since it will make you look vulnerable, when actually, that’s what makes us humans. We fell, we cry, and we learn, so, how are we supposed to live our life if we do not let out those hard emotions.

When we were kids, our parents, taught us that crying was something made for the weak minded, when in reality, it is scientifically proven that when you cry you let out endorphins (a part from the fact that your tears clean your eyes).

At the beginning of the past decade, web sites like Tumblr and Facebook, made depressed a whole generation. You had pre-teens and teens wanting to be like British TV show character Effy Stonem, who was known for being depressed and also a drug addict, but what we liked was the aesthetic, and it is happening nowadays with shows like Euphoria, with the little difference that we are young adults now.

During the late 10’s a wave of positivity hit us all, now you needed to be positive, high frequency, positive thoughts, turning our then depressed society into a fake one.

Now, I am not saying that we need to be sad and miserable for the rest of our lives, because that would be exhausting, instead we should be more balance, and that is my theory for the night. We will find the balance between expressing our sadness and frustration while being positive and moving forwards.

It would be useless for me to say that you will find this balance from day to night, along with, accepting and loving yourself since it is a lifetime project. You probably will not recover from that heartbreak you are having right now in a month, but eventually, you are not going to remember his or her name.

It is good to be sad. It is good to be overwhelmed by emotions that you do not understand. It is good to be and feel miserable from time to time, because that means, that you are alive. That is where you find the balance of your emotions, which, is called emotional intelligence.

As human beings we are known for being adaptable and progressive. In 50 years our grandchildren’s are going to be better at handling harsh emotions.

Emotions like the death of a loved one and divorces will never be easy and compressible to handle, at all, but let’s wish that we come together as a society and validate negative emotions since it is mentally impossible to be happy the entire time, such as being sad. Let’s celebrate being able to feel something.
