Future of Commercial Space Flight

Over the last few decades, scientists have been studying space and the planets that surround us. NASA has been sending astronauts and robots to space to discover whether it is habitable or if the common population would be viable enough to travel. Rapid advancements in the field of Aerospace technology have made commercial spaceflight something more possible. Governments throughout the world have been known to limit space programs due to budget constraints. However, in the past 20 years, many successful people have been investing in this industry, thus making it more viable.

Public funding of the government is not enough to sustain the market of spaceflight, so this is why it has become a private business. Commercializing the concept of space travel also invites a significant amount of competition. This presents many new opportunities for funding and new enthusiasm to spark innovation from the private sector. Just last year there was an investment of 3.8 billion dollars from various space companies all around the world.

Unfortunately, space is a somewhat inhospitable environment. Because of this, manufacturers have had to figure out ways to produce materials in space itself. Companies, like Made in Space, have managed to figure it out. They have implemented systems that will self-produce things like spare parts, medical devices, and tools in space whenever the demand arises. This also gives them the flexibility to manage inventory. The creation of things like this would allow for the building of spaces and sites in which humans can visit or inhabit.

Aside from trying to make space more habitable, companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin have been looking into the business of space tourism. In 2023 SpaceX is planning to release a second attempt that will lead them to travel to the moon. They hope to arrive and begin planning for the industrialization of the moon. Companies have also been looking into the creation of “space hotels'' and infrastructure. As mentioned earlier, in order to complete this, organizations have to continue brainstorming on ways to gather resources and build this groundwork in space

Although it may seem like this is something that is far away, commercial space flight is closer than it looks. Private space companies are continuously investing a lot of money to make this possible and we, as a generation, might be the first to experience it.
